Cat's claw is a vine that grows in the Peruvian jungle. The plant gets its name from pairs of large, curved thorns that grow along the vine. In Spanish, the vine's name is "Uña de Gato".
Its scientific name is Uncaria tomentosa. Traditionally, this plant has been used by Peruvian jungle natives to treat inflammatory diseases like arthritis, to clean the digestive tract and treat cancer. It has also been used to treat dysentery, recovery from childbirth, and women's hormone disorders. Recent studies indicate that Cat’s Claw also acts as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunostimulant and antibacterial agent; additionally, it delays the development of certain cancer cells.
